Privacy Policy

The short version: your voice belongs to you. Spoken has no accounts, no analytics, and no servers of ours holding your recordings. Everything you record stays on your device, with optional backup to your own iCloud.
Who we are
Spoken is a daily voice journal for iPhone, made by Rameen Khan (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. If anything here is unclear, email us at rameen07@gmail.com.
No account, no sign-up
Spoken does not require — or offer — an account. We never ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying information to use the app.
Your recordings stay on your device
Journal entries (audio recordings and their metadata, such as the date and duration) are stored locally on your device. They are never uploaded to servers we operate — we don’t operate any. We cannot listen to, access, or recover your entries.
Optional iCloud backup
If you enable backup, your entries are copied to your personal iCloud account so you can restore them on a new device. This backup is tied to your own Apple ID, handled by Apple’s iCloud service, and subject to Apple’s privacy policy. We have no access to your iCloud data. You can turn backup off at any time in the app’s settings, and manage or delete the stored data through your device’s iCloud settings.
Microphone
Spoken requests microphone access for one purpose only: recording your daily entry. Audio is captured only while you are actively recording and is saved only if you choose to keep the take.
App lock and Face ID
If you turn on the app lock, Spoken uses Face ID or Touch ID through Apple’s system frameworks to unlock the app. Biometric data is processed entirely by iOS on your device — the app never sees, stores, or transmits it.
Notifications
The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. It does not involve any external service.
Subscriptions
Spoken offers an optional subscription, purchased through Apple’s App Store. Payments are processed by Apple; we never see your payment details. To validate purchases and manage subscription status, the app uses RevenueCat, which processes a randomly generated app user identifier and purchase receipt information. This identifier is not linked to your name or your journal entries.
No analytics, no tracking, no ads
Spoken contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no trackers. We do not collect usage data, and we do not sell or share any data — there is nothing to sell.
Deleting your data
- Delete individual entries at any time from within the app.
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored entries.
- If you used iCloud backup, you can remove the backup data from your device’s iCloud settings.
Children
Spoken is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children included.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be called out in the app’s release notes.
